Why Letterboxd does not track TV

Letterboxd is a film platform — its own App Store listing calls it the social app for film lovers, and makes no mention of series or episode tracking. That is a deliberate focus rather than an oversight, and it is a large part of why the film diary works as well as it does.

TV breaks the model a film diary is built on. A film is one complete thing you watch once. A series is dozens of hours spread across seasons, it may still be airing, and “have you watched it?” stops being a yes-or-no question. Tracking that properly needs episodes as first-class objects from the start.

You do not have to choose

This is not an argument for leaving Letterboxd. Plenty of people keep writing film reviews there and track series in Cinephile, and Cinephile can import your Letterboxd data so your film history is present in both.
