TV Time Migration Guide

TV Time shut down on 15 July 2026. If you saved an export of your data before then, Cinephile can import your movies, shows, watch progress, ratings and lists. Here is how.

Did TV Time shut down?

Yes. TV Time shut down on 15 July 2026. The apps were removed from the App Store and Google Play, and tvtime.com now shows only a farewell message.

This matters for the steps below, because you can no longer create a new export from TV Time. The instructions on this page work only if you already have export files saved from before the shutdown. If you do not, your TV Time history is not recoverable from TV Time — but rebuilding in Cinephile is faster than it sounds, because setting a show to the season and episode you reached marks everything before it as watched. Before you start

Cinephile imports two kinds of TV Time data: the official TV Time data export (the account data ZIP, which also brings in the comments you left in that community), and the JSON files produced by TV Time Liberator, a third-party browser extension. The extension is not made or maintained by Cinephile, so review it yourself before using it.

If you already have an official TV Time export ZIP, use that — open Cinephile, go to Settings, then Import, and pick the TV Time option. The extension steps below are the fallback for anyone who ran TV Time Liberator before the shutdown and still has its JSON files.

The steps below describe the TV Time Liberator extension. They require export files you saved before 15 July 2026 — step 2 onward can no longer be performed against the live TV Time site.

1. Install the export extension

  1. Open Google Chrome on your computer (I know, I also prefer Safari, but this extension is only available for Chrome).
  2. Install the Tv Time Liberator extension from the Chrome Web Store.
  3. After installation, make sure the extension is available from Chrome's toolbar.

2. Export your TV Time data

  1. Go to the TV Time website in Chrome and sign in.
  2. Once your account library is visible, click the Tv Time Liberator extension in the toolbar.
  3. Follow the prompts in the extension to generate your export.
  4. When the export finishes, Chrome should download a ZIP file containing your data.

3. Extract the downloaded archive

  1. Find the ZIP file in your downloads folder.
  2. Unzip it with the built-in extraction tool on your computer.
  3. Inside the extracted files, look for movies.json, shows.json, and lists.json. The lists file is optional and imports TV Time lists as Cinephile collections.

4. Import the JSON files into Cinephile

  1. Open Cinephile.
  2. Go to Settings.
  3. Open the "Import Data" section.
  4. Select TV Time as the source.
  5. Select TV Time Liberator, then choose any available movies.json, shows.json, and optional lists.json files.
  6. Start the import and wait for processing to finish.

After the import

Congratulations! You're completely free from TV Time and are now ready to continue your journey in Cinephile. Enjoy!
